Cable deck lift completes offshore substation jacket foundation

Cable deck lift tops off jacket foundation

Inch Cape’s offshore substation jacket foundation is now standing at full height with the recent completion of the cable deck lift at the Smulders yard in Wallsend, Newcastle (4 April 2025).

The lift carried out safely by heavy lift specialists Sarens tops off the fabrication work that started in early 2023. Both the jacket foundation and the Siemens Energy Offshore Transformer Module (OTM®) will be installed at the North Sea site off the coast of Angus in late summer this year.

The cable deck lift came around one month after the mid-section of the project’s offshore substation jacket was lifted on to the lower section, which created an instant temporary landmark on the Newcastle skyline.

At 68 metres, the jacket towers above the nearby port buildings. The 792 tonne mid-section, which includes boat landing, was loaded on top of the jacket base using two cranes in tandem.

The mid and lower sections were welded together prior to the cable deck lift.
