Notification of John Muir Way diversion next week
The John Muir Way footpath at the Cockenzie seafront will be diverted for four days in the coming week to enable the completion of grouting works in relation to the project’s second export cable.
Signage has been posted at the site by the project’s contractors to inform regular users of the walking route about the diversion and to signpost the alternative path. The diversion will be in place from Monday 10 August until Thursday 13 August.
The work will be done as efficiently as possible though the project team apologies in advance for any inconvenience the diversion may cause.
There will be a final diversion of the John Muir Way in October when the construction teams will return to backfill the landfall construction site adjacent to the seawall and to landscape the area. There may be some disruption during this period as site hoarding and equipment is moved and reinstatement works are undertaken.
By December, the area that is currently the landfall construction site will have been restored, seeded and planted with shrubs. Over the winter it will be monitored to ensure it will be green and growing next spring (2027).
In terms of the Inch Cape onshore substation itself, the project is now entering its energisation phase with just some connection and commissioning works to complete in the coming months. The temporary office units and facilities will remain into early 2027.
