Inch Cape announces second year of Construction Fund with Foundation Scotland

Community groups and charities in Prestonpans, Cockenzie and Port Seton, can once again apply for grants of up to £2000 from the Inch Cape Construction Fund as the offshore wind farm’s grant-making programme enters its second year.

Managed by Foundation Scotland, the fund aims to tackle the effects of poverty and inequality, such as isolation, ill health and access to services, and to support initiatives to improve the local environment.

The eligible communities are those in areas surrounding the offshore wind farm’s onshore substation, which is now under construction at the site of the former Cockenzie Power Station, East Lothian. Electricity generated by the project’s offshore wind turbines, sited 15 kilometres off the Angus coast, will be brought ashore at this new facility.

During the Fund’s first year, almost £45,000 was awarded to a total of 28 different local initiatives, ranging from supporting young people’s musical and outdoor endeavours, and funding community gala events, to facilitating recreational sessions for the elderly and enabling workshops or support activities for those from disadvantaged groups.

A further £45,000 will be awarded over the course of the coming 12-month period and groups can apply at any time.

Inch Cape’s Stakeholder and Communications Manager Sue Vincent said: “The first year of the Inch Cape Construction Fund facilitated the support of a huge variety of initiatives benefitting a wide cross-section of people from the community nearest our onshore construction work. We welcome further applications this coming year and look forward to ongoing support from the team at Foundation Scotland.”

Foundation Scotland, Felicity Wright, Community Funds Adviser said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm. It has been great to see so many local groups benefitting and the positive difference their work, supported by the Fund, is making in the community.”

Information and the online application forms are available on  Inch Cape Construction Fund page of Foundation Scotland’s website. Details of the groups which received funding during the first 12 months can be found on the Inch Cape construction fund awards webpage
