JGC Engineering and Technical Services Ltd

Caithness-based family-owned JGC Engineering and Technical Services Ltd provides engineering services across the energy, utilities and construction sectors. For Inch Cape, the company was contracted by the project’s marine contractor Seaway7 to fabricate equipment that will support the offshore foundation installation.
This work included the fabrication of six transition piece internal guide grillages and associated sub‑structures, as well as centralising shim assemblies for the pile installation frame and components.

The grillage scope was for the supply, fabrication, painting, and delivery of six steel structures, each measuring 7.8 metres wide and collectively weighing approximately 110 tonnes. Once complete they were transported from JGC’s Janetstown facility to Scrabster Harbour and on to Invergordon, from where they will mobilised before deployment later in 2026.
The pile installation frame work involved the fabrication, welding, machining and finish line-boring of a total 24 shim assemblies, each with two link arm fabrications, plus the machining of all associated connection pins and bearings.
Outcome
The work on this project created several fabrication and machining jobs for local people and provided valuable learning and experience for JGC Engineering’s established work teams and apprentices.
Several welders achieved additional weld codings that were required to complete the works and it is hoped that the successful delivery of this project will help position JGC well for further similar work packages in the offshore wind sector.
Robert Campbell, Director at JGC Engineering and Technical Services Ltd said:
“JGC was delighted to be awarded this scope of work by Seaway7 which helps further strengthen our experience within the offshore wind market. Working to a tight programme with high dimensional accuracy demands, JGC successfully delivered the project on time and budget, helping ensure the wider project success for Seaway7 and Inch Cape.”
