Alfa Lift vessel arrives into Scotland

Global Port Services Shipping (GPSS) provides comprehensive shipping and logistics support across the international energy sector from its base in Scotland.

GPSS was appointed by Seaway7 to provide port agency, vessel and logistical support services as part of their scope of work on Inch Cape. Port of Cromarty Firth, Invergordon, served as the intermediate port for two of Seaway7’s key vessels – the Seaway Alfa Lift and the Seaway Eagle, state-of-the-art heavy lift and transport vessels supporting the installation of foundation structures and transition pieces for the wind farm.

For the Seaway Alfa Lift, this marked its first-ever calls to a UK port. Delivering across four port calls totalling 90 days, GPSS coordinated an extensive programme of marine logistics, with support services from fellow Global Group companies and local subcontractors. The services encompassed plant and equipment (from generators to lighting towers, to telehandlers and forklifts), craneage (60t–750t), heavy transport, specialist personnel (including supervisors, banksmen, riggers, rope access, and engineers), welding support and fabrication, storage, procurement, accommodation, vessel fuelling and crew transfer management.

GPSS has also supported Seaway7 on other vessel project support for Inch Cape in Montrose, Rotterdam, Volos, Leith and Aberdeen on the crew transfer vessels (CTVs) and Siem Barracuda – Aberdeen is a key hub for the Siem Barracuda during the grouting package, with circa 30 port calls scheduled over the course of the project.

Outcomes

The Seaway Alfa Lift’s first UK port call commenced in March 2026, with the vessel spending four weeks at Invergordon ahead of transition pieces being loaded at Port of Leith. More than 100 skilled local personnel were on site each day – including painters, welders, electricians, and scaffolders – with crews working 24/7 on 12-hour shift patterns.

Welcoming the Seaway Alfa Lift to Invergordon – and supporting with the Seaway Eagle, CTVs and Siem Barracuda – represents a significant operational milestone for GPSS, building expertise in managing complex, large-scale vessel programmes that will strengthen the company’s capabilities on future offshore wind projects.

Across the full port agency, vessel and logistical support contract for Seaway7 in support of Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm, the project is supporting 100 plus jobs, delivering sustained economic benefit to the Highlands and a significant boost to the regional supply chain.

Quote from Global Port Shipping Services:

“Global Port Services Shipping was appointed to provide port agency, vessel and logistical support to Seaway7 for its scope of work on Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm. GPSS has a long-established relationship with Subsea7, incorporating Seaway7.

The economic benefit this project is delivering to the Highlands – through local jobs and the regional supply chain – is exactly what this kind of work should achieve. Supporting Seaway7 and  Inch Cape Offshore Limited in the delivery of one of Scotland’s largest offshore wind farms, and welcoming the Seaway Alfa Lift to Invergordon for its first-ever UK port calls, was a real milestone. Working alongside fellow Global Group companies and trusted local subcontractors, we’re proud of the contribution we’re making to the UK’s drive to net zero and greater energy security.”
