As the civils contractor for Inch Cape’s Cockenzie substation site, Careys was responsible for the static var compensator (SVC) and the combined buildings including the sub-structure, steel frame, cladding, roof systems, ground floor slabs, blockwork, partitions and internal finishes. External works on the project included equipment foundations, below ground drainage, ducting, flood walls, fencing and hard landscaping.
Outcomes
The Inch Cape project enabled Careys to showcase its ability to deliver complex engineering solutions while maintaining the highest standards of quality, security and safety in the energy industry. It has added to the experience and provides a solid grounding for winning future projects in the energy sector.
The Carey’s team was on-site for more than two years, with the project providing continuous employment for the largely Scottish workforce. It also supported employment in the local area, recruiting both a student engineer and apprentice engineer from within the community.

Cathal McManus, Project Manager for Careys said:
“We are extremely pleased to have been awarded the contract on the Inch Cape project, supporting a project of this scale and national importance, which has provided Careys with the opportunity to demonstrate our exceptional construction services. It also highlights our continued involvement in an expanding industry, having previously delivered critical wind farm infrastructure projects in Ireland.“
