Jack-up vessel home for teams working on the offshore substation platform

More than 65 personnel are currently living and working offshore on the jack-up Noble Resilient as the hook-up and commissioning of Inch Cape’s offshore substation platform continues along with the pull-in and jointing of the first export cable.

Sited approximately 22 kilometres from the Angus coast, the self-elevating vessel is home to the crew of around 30, plus the teams carrying out the jointing of the first export cable and the hook-up and and commissioning of the Siemens Energy Offshore Transmission Module (OTM®) which was installed in early August.

Fabricated by Smulders at the firm’s Wallsend yard, the OTM® is a compact 2700-tonne platform with two circuits comprising transformers and reactors sitting on a 68-metre deep jacket foundation. Inch Cape’s two export cables will connect into the offshore substation platform, with the first pulled in from the cable lay vessel CMOS Installer in early October.

The full scope of work now underway on the substation encompasses a wide range of multidisciplinary engineering services, including cable jointing, electrical, inspection, mechanical, painting, scaffolding, and rope access.

Acting as a walk-to-work vessel, Noble Resilient has berths for up to 120 people and all the facilities needed to ensure those onboard are able to effectively carry out the required activity including meeting rooms, cinema, gym, restaurants and office space.

The vessel is 70 metres long and has three 145 metre legs, so is visible on the horizon for those looking out to sea from sections of the Angus coastline. The vessel will remain at the site until later in 2025 when this initial scope of work is due for completion.
