Inch Cape winners at Renewable UK’s Global Offshore Wind Awards 2025

Inch Cape received not one but two awards at last night’s prestigious Renewable UK Global Offshore Wind Awards 2025 in London.
First the team was awarded the Finance Award, recognising a landmark financial transaction that demonstrated a commitment to accelerate or grow the deployment of offshore wind and that celebrated a pioneering approach to financial structuring. The award was accepted by Inch Cape Project Director John Hill and former Finance Director Mark Fogarty of ESB.

Inch Cape was the first UK offshore wind farm to reach financial close since Labour took office in July 2024 – successfully navigating numerous challenges before winning a contract for difference (CfD) in 2022. While global political turmoil impacted the economic feasibility, new team members, a drive to secure vessels and suppliers, a second chance at CfD and strong shareholder support enabled the project to secure more than £3.5 billion in funding and kick-off offshore construction.
In the night’s second win, John Hill was recognised as a trusted hand in delivering the clean energy revolution as winner of the Made it Happen Award.

Hugely experienced Project Director John Hill has managed the development/construction and financing of five major UK offshore wind projects, including his current project, Inch Cape. He has successfully led the installation of 2.6 gigawatt (GW) of the UK’s 14.7GW installed capacity (almost 20%). When Inch Cape is completed in 2027 his efforts will have contributed to a total of 3.7GW. His roles have also seen him run financing processes which have generated more than £11.5 billion capital investment in the UK’s electrical infrastructure.
The event – the offshore wind industry’s annual “Oscars” – recognised the people, projects and companies delivering the global clean energy future.
With 14 different awards, it showcased a huge variety of achievements in the industry over the past year. It was a positive recognition for all the finalists and winners, and chance celebrate the collective successes of the offshore wind sector.
