First section of export cable sets sail from Blyth
The initial 28-kilometre section of Inch Cape’s first export cable sailed out from the Port of Blyth last night en route to its installation location off the Scottish coast.
Inch Cape will have two 85-kilometre 220 kV, three-phase export cables, each comprising three separate 28-kilometre sections that will be laid separately and jointed offshore.
Marine contractor Enshore Subsea’s cable lay vessel CMOS Installer left the port in the evening and will begin cable installation in the coming days. The 92-metre long vessel has a reduced draught and specialises in laying cable in shallow water.
All three sections of the first cable will be installed, jointed and pulled in to both the offshore substation and onshore substation this year.
The cables were fabricated by Orient Cable and arrived in the UK in June.
