Glasgow plant supplies specialised concrete at Cockenzie landfall

Heidelberg Materials supplied 242 cubic metres of PowerCrete® heat-conducting concrete to support the landfall connection at Inch Cape. Delivered from the Glasgow plant, PowerCrete was used as bedding and infill material to enhance heat dissipation and maximise underground cable capacity. The project required precise coordination due to tidal constraints, showcasing close collaboration between Heidelberg Materials’ operations, logistics, and site teams.

Outcomes

The successful delivery of PowerCrete to the Inch Cape landfall site not only supported a major renewable energy development but also showcased Heidelberg Materials’ expertise in managing complex logistics under tidal constraints. The project required seamless coordination between plant, logistics, and site teams, strengthening operational agility and cross-functional collaboration.

This experience has deepened internal capabilities in supplying specialist concretes for technically demanding applications, positioning the team for future involvement in offshore wind and energy transition projects. Beyond the technical achievement, the project provided valuable learning opportunities—highlighting the importance of precision planning, real-time communication, and adaptability under pressure. It also reinforced the value of strong contractor partnerships, which are essential for delivering infrastructure in challenging environments.

As Scotland’s offshore wind sector continues to expand, this successful collaboration may serve as a gateway to future projects, enabling Heidelberg Materials to play a key role in supporting the UK’s renewable energy ambitions.
