Had Fab

Structural role for East Lothian-based engineering company

East Lothian-based structural engineering and metal fabrication company, Had Fab has played a vital role in the construction of the Inch Cape onshore substation working alongside one of its key strategic customers, Siemens Energy. Had Fab is recognised as one the UK’s leaders in the design and fabrication of both steel and aluminium structures for the power, transmission and distribution industry.

On the Inch Cape project, Had Fab was responsible for the design and fabrication of all the 220kV and 33kV structures to accommodate specific site parameters. These elements were fabricated and galvanised to withstand the region’s harsh weather, including corrosive conditions and high wind speeds.

Outcomes

The work on Inch Cape created multiple fabrication jobs for local people and also offered valuable experience to Had Fab’s young apprentices. The project provided a steep learning curve and vital knowledge for the design teams which will be working on the numerous future substations in Scottish rural areas.

Imtiyaaz Hussain, Business Development Manager T&D at Had Fab said:

“The experience our teams had through their work on Inch Cape will be invaluable in helping us to deliver the substations which will be pivotal in ensuring the future pathway to net zero across the UK.”
