Frazer-Nash Consultancy
Frazer-Nash Consultancy is a leading UK systems, engineering and technology company. The consultancy provided wind turbine layout optimisation modelling for Inch Cape, developing a geometric model for array layout parameterisation that defined project boundaries and exclusion zones, specified perimeter weightings and generated grid layouts.
The team developed and delivered a series of optimised candidate layouts that respected the constraints placed on the layout by buildable area, and search and rescue requirements. Forecast annual energy production (AEP) and wake-added turbulence data were provided for each layout which supported Inch Cape’s decision to move towards a perimeter-weighted configuration.
Outcome
Having led seminal industry research projects on offshore windfarm layout design, this project further developed Frazer-Nash’s experience on commercial projects and was a valuable learning experience for more junior team members involved. The consultancy’s ability to bring wider insights and novel methodology to the project was also a source of learning for the development team.
